Our vision

The world of Biashara is built around values that are particularly close to our hearts. The game experience was built around them.

Accessibilty

For us, accessibility is as much about the time it takes to get to grips with the universe as it is about immersion. So we needed a system that was simple to understand and easy to pick up. Mental calculations are practically non-existent, avoiding the lengthy and frustrating process of forgetting. Without tracking, the character sheet is used to record information, and all effects to be filled in are resolved at the time of the roll.

Coherence

We believe that the coherence of a universe lies in the fact that its narrative and mechanics tell the same story. For example, if a character's sanity is compromised, then it's consistent that his efficiency is affected. Just as it's obvious that a blacksmith knows how to make jewelry.  In this case, the roll will only serve to add extra effects.

Imagination

A powerful educational vector, it plays a role in the way we perceive reality. What we don't know is filled in by our imagination, which in turn feeds our imaginations. Using games to approach history means both revisiting our perception and enriching it with new elements.

Why choose
a TTRPG?

Before starting Biashara, we asked ourselves what medium we would use to express what we had to say. After all, there are many ways of disseminating and sharing an idea. So what is the added value of using role-playing games to tell the story of the African continent in medieval times?

As a board game, RPGs offer the flexibility to tackle an infinite number of subjects in a playful way. From general entertainment to darker, more adult content. The same world can be adapted to suit a number of different gameplay experiences.

Getting players to evolve in a persistent world allows them to fully embrace the codes that govern how it works. In our case, where the codes are inspired by African cultures, it's an opportunity to share them over the course of the game.

In our opinion, this cocktail of fun, social interaction and involvement over a long period of time is one of the best ways of assimilating information and really retaining it.
